Walking Challenge under the “10,000 Steps a Day” Campaign Terms and Conditions
Terms and Conditions
The Walking Challenge under the “10,000 Steps a Day” Campaign (“Walking Challenge”) is organised by the Health Bureau (“HHB”) and Department of Health (“DH”). All individual participants of the Walking Challenge are herein referred to as “Participants” or “You”. Organisations (including enterprises, companies, non-governmental organisations, or other entities engaging employees) taking part in the Walking Challenge are referred to as “Participating Organisations” or “You”. By participating in the Walking Challenge, you acknowledge and agree to comply with and bound by the terms and conditions herein and all the rules, regulations, guidelines and frequently asked questions (FAQs) published on the event website of the Walking Challenge (collectively “Terms and Conditions”). In addition to the Terms and Conditions governing the Walking Challenge, by participating in the Walking Challenge, you acknowledge and agree to comply with and bound by all the terms and conditions governing the use of the e+Life App, which can be found in the e+Life App and on the website of the e+Life App.
The Walking Challenge is exclusively for Participants aged 18 years old or above residing in Hong Kong and who had been registered with the Electronic Health Record Sharing System (eHealth). Participating Organisations should also be registered organisations in Hong Kong. HHB and DH reserve the right to check against Participants’ or Participating Organisations’ eligibility for entry and to reject any registration or disqualify any Participants/Participating Organisations if they deem it necessary and appropriate without giving any explanation. Each Participant and Participating Organisation could only register once.
It is the sole responsibility of Participants to ensure that his/her physical condition is fit participating the Walking Challenge. Please consult your doctor if you have any concerns about your health conditions prior to or during the Walking Challenge. By taking part in the Walking Challenge, Participants acknowledge and agree that HHB and DH shall not be liable for death, injury, loss or damage arising from participation in this Walking Challenge, be it direct or indirect. You hereby acknowledge and confirm that any and all actions and/or decisions that you may make or conduct as a result of or in connection with the Walking Challenge are exercised based on your own independent judgment and at your own risks, and HHB and DH have no responsibility to you for any liabilities or compensation. You acknowledge that you are joining this Walking Challenge voluntarily and may terminate the participation at any time.
The Walking Challenge period is from 1 November 2024 00:00 to 30 November 2024 23:59.
Interested individuals are required to enrol in the Walking Challenge through the e+Life App.
Participants are required to use an eligible third party mobile application to record their step counts during the Walking Challenge period and synchronise the record with e+Life App. Participants agree to provide consent to HHB and DH for the e+Life App to access and retrieve the step data from the selected third party mobile application, and provide consent to the selected third party mobile application to share the step data with e+ Life App; and connect or synchronise the e+Life App with the selected third party mobile application.
HHB and DH are not responsible or liable for the use of such third party mobile application which may be subject to their respective terms and data privacy notices, and do not represent or guarantee that the third party mobile application will function or be error free. In particular, HHB and DH shall not be liable for any errors, omissions or inaccuracies in the data (or other services) received from such third party mobile application, any data or outcomes generated based on data received from such third party mobile application, or for any interruptions, access or security issues associated with the provision of such data by the third party mobile application.
HHB and DH do not make any specific guarantee regarding the ongoing availability of step data from the third party mobile application for use with e+Life App. If, or any reason HHB and DH is unable to administer the Walking Challenge without interruption (such as where the third party mobile application may stop providing HHB and DH with access to its step data), HHB and DH reserve the right to suspend or terminate any of the services in relation to the Walking Challenge, and you hereby agree to release us from any liability relating to our delivery of the Walking Challenge.
Interested organisations are required to register with HHB and DH for the Walking Challenge. After the organisations have successfully enroled, the staff will be able to select their organisations during enrolment through the e+Life App, and the step counts of the participating staff will be counted towards the organisations they have chosen. The list of the top 20 Participating Organisations with the highest total step counts accumulated by participating staff during the Walking Challenge period will be displayed in the e+Life App.
Participants reaching a daily average of 7,500 steps and 10,000 steps during the Walking Challenge period can receive electronic certificate of participation and certificate of achievement in the e+Life App respectively.
Participating Organisations with the highest total step count accumulated by all participating staff and Participating Organisations with the highest percentage of participating staff achieving 10,000 steps a day (organisations are required to have at least five participating staff) during Walking Challenge period will receive organisation award.
The awards of the Walking Challenge may change from time to time at the sole discretion and decision of HHB and DH without prior notice. All awards cannot be returned or exchanged for cash, nor can they be exchanged or refunded.
Participating Organisations should provide accurate information for registration. If any of the information provided to the organisers is inaccurate or incomplete resulting in failure to register or to contact the Participating Organisations by the organisers for the award, the Participating Organisations will be deemed to have forfeited the award. The organisers shall not be liable for any loss and will not re-issue the award to the Participating Organisations and the Participating Organisations will be disqualified. HHB and DH reserve the right to handle the forfeited award at its sole discretion.
Participants must synchronise all the step counts during the Walking Challenge period on or before 4 December 2024 11:59 p.m. All date, time and step count record in relation to the Walking Challenge are based on the computer record and information of the e+Life App. HHB and DH will not entertain any requests to change step count record in the e+Life App.
HHB and DH retain the right to ask Participants for additional proof if the step count records provided are deemed questionable and may disqualify relevant Participants/Participating Organisations if deemed necessary and appropriate without giving any explanation. Disqualified Participants/Participating Organisations will not be eligible for any electronic certificates or awards.
In case there is, in HHB and DH’s opinion, any fraud relating to or abuse or suspected violation in relation to the Walking Challenge, HHB and DH reserve the right to disqualify the Participants/Participating Organisations immediately and to take legal action without prior notice.
Participants/Participating Organisations are solely responsible for the security of any transmission over the internet. Participants/Participating Organisations should confirm by themselves whether they can successfully register and that the device model used and its network performance can operate smoothly with the Walking Challenge. HHB and DH will not bear any legal responsibility for any failure in transmission of step counts which contributed to awards or electronic certificates that are not received due to any issues relating to system updates/maintenance, device model, network, technology, hacking, unsuccessful/delayed registration of the Walking Challenge, and/or any other uncontrollable events. All electronic certificates and virtual stickers will not be re-issued under any circumstances.

In cases of any disputes regarding the Terms and Conditions and any other matters relating to this Walking Challenge, HHB and DH reserve the right to the final and binding decision.
HHB and DH may launch, revise, modify, suspend, cancel or terminate the Walking Challenge or any aspects of it (including but not limited to the format, electronic certificates or awards given, etc.) at its sole discretion at any time without prior notice. Any changes or cancellation of the Walking Challenge will be announced in the e+Life App and the event website of the Walking Challenge.
In case of any discrepancy between the English and Chinese versions of the Terms and Conditions, the English version shall prevail. HHB and DH reserve the right to revise and interpret the Terms and Conditions.
HHB and DH reserve the right to amend any of the Terms and Conditions at their sole discretion at any time without prior notice. The decision of HHB and DH on all matters and disputes pertaining to the Walking Challenge shall be final.
The Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the Laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. You agree to irrevocably submit any disputes arising from or in connection with the Terms and Conditions and/or the Walking Challenge to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong.
The Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Ordinance shall not apply to the Terms and Conditions.
In case of any dispute, the decision of HHB and DH shall be final and binding.
Personal Data (Privacy) Policy
Personal Data Collection Statement
HHB and DH shall ensure that all personal data you provided for the purpose of the Walking Challenge under “10,000 Steps a Day” Campaign (“Walking Challenge”) be in strict adherence to the relevant provisions of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486).
Purposes of Personal Data Collection
Your personal data collected in the Walking Challenge will be used for the following purposes:
Enrolment of the Walking Challenge;
Using e+ Life App and other mobile applications relevant to the Walking Challenge;
Confirmation of personal identity of participants;
Providing electronic certificates or awards;
Publishing ranking of organisations on websites and/or mobile applications relevant to the Walking Challenge;
Promotion, marketing or advertising activities related to the Walking Challenge
Providing customer services or other assistance in connection with the Walking Challenge;
Providing health information (such as information related to health education, health promotional programmes and health surveys, etc)
Accounting of expenses; and
Conducting statistical analysis for research, health education or teaching purposes.
The provision of personal data is voluntary. However, if you fail to provide sufficient information, HHB and DH reserve the right to disqualify you from the Walking Challenge immediately.
Disclosure and transfer of Personal Data
Other than the use within HHB, DH and relevant contractors, the personal data you provide may also be accessed by, disclosed to and transferred to other individuals/ organisations, if required, for the purposes mentioned in paragraph 2 above. Apart from this, the data may only be disclosed under your consent or where such disclosure is allowed in accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.
Data Access and Correction
In accordance with Sections 18 and 22 and Principle 6 of Schedule 1 of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, you have the right to access and correct your personal data which includes the right to obtain a copy of your personal data. A fee may be chargeable by the HHB and DH for complying with a data access request.
